Autumn sage can be found growing in gravelly or sandy soils of the Edwards Plateau and South Texas Plains. It is a small shrub reaching a height of 3 feet. The leaves are narrow and 3/8 to 1 1/4 inches in length and 3/16 to 3/8 inch in width. Flower stalks consist of 3 to 12 red to purplish flowers. Other colors of Autumn Sage are known, such as white and pink. These are desirable plants for xeriscaping. Autumn Sage blooms from summer to fall.
