Bearded Dalea is a trailing or upright perennial herb. The stem can reach a length of twelve inches. The flowers are purple or purple-violet to pale lavender and are about 3/8 inch long. The flowers are arranged in silky, elongated clusters. This plant is considered a good forage for some species of wildlife. It can be found in various soils of the South Texas Plains and the Edwards Plateau. It’s other common name, hierba del corazón, means herb of the heart. Bearded Dalea blooms from March to November. The leaves and flowers are eaten by white-tailed deer.
