Common Dogweed is a short perennial reaching a height of four to eight inches. It is found in dry calcareous and chalky soils of the South Texas Plains and the Edwards Plateau. The leaves are divided into five to eleven narrow lobes measuring 1/2 inch. The flower head consists of 16 to 70 dull yellow disk flowers and 8 to 13 yellow to yellow-orange ray flowers. The flower head is raised above the plant on a long stalk that measures one to four inches in length. Common Dogweed blooms from March to December.
