Multi-flowered False Rhodesgrass has been found in silt, clay, or sandy loam soils of the South Texas Plains, though it is a rare occurrence. This grass can reach a height of five feet. The seed head has seven to twenty branches and is approximately 2 3/4 to 6 inches long. It is looser and less feathery than False Rhodesgrass. The seeds have awns that are 3/16 to 1/2 inch long. The leaf blade can have small rough hairs and is 11 1/2 inches long and 1/3 inch wide. Multi-flowered False Rhodesgrass blooms from July to September. It is excellent forage for livestock and is used occasionally by white-tailed deer.
