Texas Madrone is a small tree reaching 20 feet in height with a rounded open crown. The ovate to oblong-elliptic leaves are rounded at the base, pointed at the tip and are 2-5 inches long. The stems of the Texas Madrone are usually red. The flowers of this tree occur in large panicles up to 6 inches wide. The fruit is a red berry. This tree is native to the Edwards Plateau region and blooms in March. The distinctive bark color makes this a preferred landscaping plant in dry areas.
